70) BACK TO CORDOBA AND THE DAKAR! (10 to 23 January 2017)

I did not stay long in Buenos Aires after Han left. Enough time however to enjoy my favourite Argentinian beer:Once, in the traffic, I met Eduardo on his motorbike (on the right), retired police officer. With his son, they made me a member of the Motociclistas Peregrinos association. They invited me for lunch, and we drank shit loads of wine and cruised down the streets in his suburb in a motorbike procession.I also met Kane, known as Bonnietour, English. As I am writing this, he has just set the record of the youngest motorbiker riding around the World, at 24 years old. But this is another type of travel: 1200km per day, rides at night, etc…The night before I left Buenos Aires, I caught up with my Canadian good mate Brian. I had met him at the border between Peru and Bolivia, saw him again in South Chile, in Ushuaia and now here in BA. He went from Canada to Ushuaia in 1 year in a camper 4WD, and is about to fly back home while his rig is on a boat. From Buenos Aires to Cordoba, the road is straight but I wanted to do a detour by Lujan. Our Lady of Lujan is the patroness of Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. At a service station, I met this guy whom I forgot the name. He was a professional football player for 3 years in Gueugnon, 2nd French division.Over night in San Pedro, on the River:And I am back in Cordoba, 2 months later. Have a look at the article 54 (https://takemethere2.com/2017/01/16/54-the-great-cordoba-6-to-10-november-2016) for pictures of the city.Cordoba is the first place I go back to in my trip. The reason is because I was very late writing the blog, and I needed to do a bit of freelance work. I went back to the same family hostel, Mundo Mestizo. After 3 weeks eating at restaurants, let’s get back to the basics: cooking. This isn’t my cooking, but it is nice… dulce de leche crep!My good friends Pablo, Maria and Luciana are also a reason I came back to Cordoba. Great parties with them!I had this in mind for a long time: take tango lessons! It was great, and I would like to keep learning at the end of my travels.Villa Carlos Paz, Alto Gracia… I went visiting the surroundings of Cordoba, a beautiful region that reminds me of the place I grew up in France. But the long trip that took me to Merlot, Rio Cuarto and Villa Maria (750km) was to follow the Dakar! For those who do not know, the Dakar is the most famous and hardest rally raid in the World. It used to be between Paris and Dakar (Senegal), but it moved to South America in 2009 because of security issues. This year: Paraguay, Argentina and Bolivia: the best auto and moto pilots are here.People thought I was a pilot and I had countless fans asking for pictures with me.With other motorbikers following the Dakar, we camped near the ‘based camp” in Rio Cuarto. In the morning, I went onto the same road as the pilots, a part that is not timed.Arnaud Monin is a French KTM pilot, I met him at a petrol station. He finished 78th on the classification for his first Dakar. Congrats!I was following French pilot Xavier de Soultrait, one of the best in the World. In Merlot the day before, as I was just arriving, I saw him pushing his moto: broken engine as he was 8th in the general classification. Bad luck. We had a chat and he asked me if i could tow him to the end of the stage, so he could be classified, but organisers refused. Another concurrent accepted to tow the moto.He arrived very late. Over night, his mechanics (Yamaha) fixed the engine and he could go for the final stage, to Buenos Aires. One the road I shared with the pilots, he recognised me when he overtook me, and kindly checked! I had the camera on, one of the best shot of my travels:Last things I did in Cordoba: prepare the motorbike and the route. I decided to skip Paraguay and ride along the coast to Uruguay, then Brasil. Every point you see on the map below are the GPS coordinates of a service station, a camping, a hostel with inside parking, a wild camping spot, a touristic attraction… I want to be on the road again!
