After this full-on week-end in Paris, I was going to my parents’ place, near Dijon, 3 hours South by train. Famous for its mustard, Dijon has changed much in the last years: tram, highway, it’s a beautiful city (150,000 people).
My dad owns a company that sells fruit juicer: have a look at the website, in French: extracteurdejuscarbel.com , I can get you a discount! The product is great, the company expanding and he has many distributors in France and a few abroad. Marketing is done through events, shows, etc… The night I arrived in Dijon, he had organised a demo in a bar, and I helped a bit:I grew up in Rouvres-sous-Meilly, half an hour drive from Dijon. It is interesting to notice that this is the exact separation between the 3 great rivers in Western Europe: Loire, Rhone and Seine. In other words: every drop of water that falls from the sky eventually reaches a river then the Ocean. When a drop of water falls here, it goes either to the Atlantic, to the Mediterranee, or to the Channel. Some would say it is the ‘roof of the Western civilisation’!Here are some pictures of the house where I grew up. I have 5 sisters and 1 brother, all of us had their own bedroom. But everyone has left and the house is rather empty now… There are also living rooms, friends’ bedroom, offices, workshops, a little pound and a small football field. As I did in Darwin a few weeks earlier, I threw away most of my belongings: studies documents, clothes, souvenirs. Not easy at all, but I’m left with 2 boxes in Australia, 1 box in France, and my 10kg backpack. Feeling light!I spent some time with my mum visiting castles and villages around:And with my dad and my brother supporting the French team during the European football tournament:Chateauneuf:My mum is a painter, some of her paintings are exhibited in a restaurant I used to work for. If you are interested, her website: francoisecarpentier.comTime for some great cooking too:During this week, I spent a lot of time relaxing and setting up the blog. Getting there!
