Han and I spent 1 week in Shanghai. I was honoured to meet her parents and we went all together to the Bund and Pudong, a concentration of impressive skyscrapers, a sort of new World Centre. I love buildings and there are plenty in Shanghai! We visited the Oriental Pearl Tower and had dinner in the higher pearl (purple building behind us).

Once again, I was lucky with the weather: views on the city are stunning.

The rest of the week was shared between visits, croissants (we were staying in the Former French Concession), shopping, dinners and parties. My best friends Adrien and Maud invited us at their place for a few days. I had been to their wedding in France a year earlier, and they had since then relocated. They also had a second baby not long before our arrival. We tried to look after the kids.

I was quite impressed with Shanghai. Restaurants are expensive, traffic isn’t crazy, we can circulate quite easily on the sidewalk, metro is clean, etc… It looks very much like a Western city, very liveable. On the downside, reports say the air is polluted and it is sometimes better to stay home.
These 2 weeks in China were intense. I really appreciated seeing 2 very different aspects: countryside typical Chengdu, and international Shanghai. I’m not looking for the most comfortable life, but I’m always looking for new and different experiences. In this aspect, the first week in Chengdu perfectly fulfilled my desire. Han-cherie will fly back to Australia, while I will keep moving fast for the next few weeks.
