75) SURFING IN FLORIANOPOLIS (12 to 19 February 2017)

I mentioned it before: I want to use this time travelling to learn new things, to be taught new skills. I took Spanish lessons in Peru, Tango lessons in Argentina, it was time for Surfing lessons in Brasil. Florianopolis is a city on Santa Catarina Island: 54km long by 18km wide and home of 420,000 people. The island is commonly called Floripa. Beaches, lakes and mountains made Floripa the 2nd touristic destination of Brasil, behind Rio de Janeiro. And I understood why! Some parts of the road along the coast were cute. Another ferry crossing on which I always make friends:I then decided to go all the way to the end of this jetty…… to take these pictures:Roads are busy. It is different from what I have seen in other countries. There are no trains in Brasil and highways are full of trucks. Riding in these conditions is intense, no too enjoyable. On Floripa, I was staying at the village ‘Barra da Lagoa’. I found the Surf school on internet. Evandro Santos used to be a professional competitor going around the World. A great guy!I really enjoyed the lessons! It was actually easier than I thought, but the waves were small. Now that I am writing this article, I miss it! Here is bunch of pictures of me on the board:This week, I almost had a routine. Surf early, huge breakfast after. Work all afternoon (freelancing), diner at the village and a cocktail in the street while watching beach football.Cocktails are 1.5 euros!!!I was not going out too late to be able to surf in the morning. But still went for a few here and there:Once I finished my work projects, I took the moto around to discover the island. It is beautiful and wild.I got lost sometimes…And I did a lot of hiking:Huge spider:Laguna del Este is one of the very best places I have seen in my life. Difficult to access (2 or 3 hours walk, or by boat), there aren’t many people. There is however a little bar that sells water, beers and cocktails. And a fresh water river super clean that makes it a perfect and free camping spot. You can also surf… I loved it!That view is breathtaking:Randomly: brasilian girls are not shy.
