The 3rd of February, a bit more than 5 months after I took off from Sao Paulo to start the moto trip in Lima, I was back in Brasil! Objective is to reach Porto Alegre to celebrate my birthday on the week-end. Travel from Punta del Este to Porto Alegre was done in 2 days (950km).
Brasil is a huge country, and I believe all parts are beautiful. I will see only the South, but I might as well enjoy it as much as I can.
Of course I did not take the easy way. After a night camping in the middle of nowhere, I took a ferry and rode on the beach for a couple of hours. Amazing!

After months in Spanish speaking countries, I managed to communicate quite well… The day I crossed the border, it hit me: no one speaks Spanish or English! Luckily, dogs understand me:
More than 20,000km without a puncture, it had to happen! It was just before entering Porto Alegre. Locals helped me to bring the moto to a mechanics and it was sorted in 2 or 3 hours. Just unfortunate it happened on my birthday…

I used the next days to visit the city, which has not much to offer. Porto Alegre, 1.5 million inhabitants, is the capital of the state Rio Grande do Sul.

The state is broke. Maintenance is not done, there are a lot of homeless people. This one is cooking meat above an oven, in which he started a fire… I know I am in Brasil! On another hand, parties are great: everywhere, all the time!
In Porto Alegre, I caught up with Anne whom I had met in Uruguay a few days earlier with her Canadian boyfriend Andre. I had a great time meeting the family and the pool! See you someday in Canada!
