69) COLONIA (URUGUAY) AND TANGO SHOW (4 to 9 January 2017)

After 5 days on the beach in Pinamar, Han and I came back to Buenos Aires to take a boat to Colonia, in Uruguay. Crossing of the estuarine takes about 1 hour.Last page on my French passport:Uruguay is a small country (smaller than UK, but twice the size of Ireland), with 3.4 million inhabitants. I am spending 24 hours only in the country, so I will not bother talk much about history and geography. The historic centre of Colonia is a Unesco World Heritage Site. The river, which comes from Brasil, is very brown! Interesting colour composition with the green trees and the blue sky…In Argentina and Uruguay, ‘mate’ is a national drink. Everyone drinks mate. It is an herbal infused drink and social ‘activity’. People share mate anywhere, anytime. Basically, the recipient is filled with mate herbs then hot water, drinkable through the straw. The recipient is filled again with water and passed to the next person.

He did happen that I stopped with the moto on the side of the road to ask for direction, and people would give me mate, naturally.

Recipients come in all forms and shapes:As I have already mentioned, we spend a lot of time demolishing local specialities:We stayed 24 hours in Colonia only, and took the boat back to Buenos Aires. This time, we would not stay in San Telmo, but in Palermo, another neighbourhood. More expensive, but full of life with all its little cafes. A French atmosphere 😉For Han’s last night in Buenos Aires, we went to a world famous Tango Show, Senor Tango. For about 100usd, diner included, we were very impressed with the quality of the music and the dance. I definitely recommend!Trying to be as classy as possible… not easy when you travel! The 7th January was the best day in my life. Han finally left. Teasing her… It is never easy to travel with someone else. But we spent more than 2 weeks together, more than I had done with anyone else before, and I had a great fun. Visiting, eating, drinking, golfing, beaching, motorbiking, laughing. Thanks a lot for being part of my trip, you will be missed!
