The region is full of glaciers (48 of them!). We went to El Calafate to observe one of them: Purito Moreno, 30km in length.
Tom let me ride his motorbike, a Triumph Tiger 800 XCx from 2015. Power, comfort… that is quite amazing. I was full into BMW, but I have to say that this machine is impressive. From Alaska, he rode about 60,000km in 8 months. Legends.
But KLaRa has got this adventurer bad boy look like no other motorbike. Unique.
And here we are, at the glacier. The ice wall is 50/70m tall. At the end of the day, after hours in the sun, huge blocks of ice fall in the water regularly in a loud noise echoed by the lake. It seems that the glacier is a monster alive. Impressive!
This nature is so different here, it is like another world. I was speechless.
After a night with numerous beers in El Calafate, we took the road again to go to Puerto Natales. We had to cross the Argentina/Chile border again, 4th time for me. Seriously, why did they make 2 countries?
The Torres del Paine national park is World famous. People come all over the World to do hiking and camping there. Apparently, the spots are limited and booking in advance is required. But I have been told they don’t kick you out if you show up with your tent. I hate booking in advance, especially when I don’t know exactly when I can be there. So we did not plan to camp, but only a long day motorbike (240km) and hiking (20km). There are other hikes, longer, that I would have liked to do, such as the W (3 or 4 days), or the ring (6 to 9 days). The park entrance is a bit expensive (30USD) for a day (I think it is possible to stay as long as you want.). But worthwhile anyway.
The road is so beautiful… I just never get sick of it! And the weather perfect!

We can’t feel it on the picture, but it was very windy sometimes.

I am so lucky with the weather! Stunning views on the needles of Torres del Paine:
There aren’t many animals in this part of the world, but we had the visit of a fox.
The way back walking…
And riding…
Again, a bit too touristic, but amazing views. Because I was not sure about this booking requirement, I spent more time in El Chalten, and less here, in Torres del Paine. But really, if you ever have time, spend a week here, camping. It is something else.
