56) MENDOZA – SANTIAGO AND THE ACONCAGUA (13 and 14 November 2016)

I stayed 1 night only in Mendoza. Time to hit the road again, I am planning 2 days for the 400km to get to Santiago: I have to cross the mountains and a border. As you know, I never go the easiest way… but this time…Steep, wet, big rocks, very slow… After nearly 2 hours I had only did 30km, and 80 more to go to get to Uspallata.Well I should stop taking shortcuts! I gave up and went back to Mendoza.img_9773The ‘normal’ road was easy, but windy.I’m still working on getting some kilos back. And I’m getting close to the high mountains again!I camped in a ski resort, near the road, about 30km from the border. We are getting close to the summer so not much snow left.At 3,000m high, it was cold, but not as cold as my Bolivian nights. Here is how well set up I am. And I could see the super moon in the middle of nowhere. In the morning, I had a look at the ‘Puente de los Incas’, this interesting rock formation. The weather was fantastic. I was looking forward to this stop, at the Aconcagua Viewpoint. This is the highest mountains in the Americas, the highest in the World Himalaya excepted. Since I climbed Huayna Potosi in Bolivia, I want more. And I told the Aconcagua I will be back for him some day. This is the start of the walk to the summit, at 3,000m. Apparently, it takes 2 weeks to get there, at nearly 7,000m.I met a group of Brasilian motorbikers. And here we are, going over the pass Cristo Redentor. The way down on the other side is impressive! Unreal windy road!!!I went quickly from 3,800m to sea level. And I am in Santiago!
