55) CORDOBA TO MENDOZA (11 and 12 November 2016)

First step of my trip to Santiago is Mendoza. 2 days and 600km to get there through the Argentinian pampa.Just out of Cordoba, the ‘Sierra’ is a little beautiful mountain range where people go for the week-end.Then it is flat and straight!I camped in the National Park Sierra de las Quijadas. There I met an English couple travelling with a side car!It was hot and for the first time I slept with the first layer of the ten only (mosquito net) so I could enjoy the stars at night.Saw this chick on a girly Harley Davidson.KLaRa is sort of a star. People love her ‘badass’ adventurer look and often take pictures of her…Until now, I had not met too many motorbike travellers. But Mendoza is a popular stop on the Ruta 40, this 5,000km road that stretches from North to South of Argentina, along the Andes. Ruta 7 that links Buenos Aires to Santiago also goes through Mendoza. A group of 12 German bikers stayed at the same hostel as me.Mendoza is famous for its wine. Most of the Argentinian wine comes from this region, the largest producing area in Latin America. It is a small city (115,000 people). Just near the centre, lays a huge park: as big as the city itself! In Mendoza, I caught up with my favourite Swiss girls: Amandine and Jeromine. We did Machu Picchu, in Peru, together, caught up again in La Paz and in San Pedro de Atacama (unexpectedly!). They are also travelling through South America for a few months. We had a great diner and drinks together.
