38) FROM OLLANTAYTAMBO TO AGUAS CALIENTES (19 Septembre 2016)

Mainly pictures in this article! Aguas Calientes is the little town from where the hikes to Machu Picchu start. It is impossible to drive to Aguas Calientes: the only ways are by train or by walk. From Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes, its a 2 hours train ride for 150USD return, or a 4 hours bike ride via Santa Teresa + 2 hours walk. Guess which option I went for…mapThere is a pass at 4,316m just a few km after Ollantaytambo. Spectacular driving, the steepest I have done so far.I like to take screenshots of the GPS…Cold at the top, but I did not stay long, and dived into what it is called the Sacred Valley on the other side.Corners are tight. The bike is great in these conditions…In the valley, I left the sealed road for some dangerous side cliff dirt roads. It took me 2 hours for the last 50km.I have been riding solo since I left, but I met another Australian on a smaller bike, but with much more experience: already 25,000km. Unfortunately, I lost him quickly after.100316_1820_38FROMOLLAN10.jpgI left the bike at a place called Hidroelectrica, and walked along the rails to Aguas Calientes. A place full of history! And I reached Aguas Calientes as the night was falling…100316_1823_39MACHUPICC1.jpg
