12) HISTORIC ‘THE SMOKE’ LONDON (10 to 12 June 2016)

I stayed 3 full days in London, but I will condense them in a quick article: I still have a lot to catch up. Coming from Iceland, it is quite a shock to get into such a crowded city… As usual, I had not booked any accommodation, but I had spotted a few ‘cheap’ and well located hostels. Not that cheap, every night cost me around 25pounds. For the first time ever, I slept in a 3 storey bed! Not as exciting as it sounds…

The reasons I was in London were because I had never had a chance to pay a proper visit, and I wanted to meet Ross, Australian fire engineer (like me) who now works in London. From what I understood, it should not be too hard for me to find a job in London. I just don’t know if I want! But it is not the time for this. Together, we watched the first football game of the Euro. The first day, I did not do any visit. I was exhausted from my trip in Iceland, I needed to wash my clothes, select pictures, etc… But, thanks to Facebook, I caught up with Morgan, a French girl I was studying with in Ireland 8 years earlier. She invited me to join a night out in Brixton with Frenchies living in London: diner, drinks, nightclub: that was a great night, thanks to her! Unfortunately, we forgot to take a picture together…

Sunday, despite the hangover, I wanted to go for a walk in the city and see as much as possible. I walked past Buckingham Palace and Big Ben, the Westminster Abbey, over the London Bridge, went to the Market Street for brunch, to the St Paul’s Cathedral, visited the British Museum, and watched the soccer games with beers and diner. All together, I calculated I walked around 25km. See below a selection of pictures.Buckingham Palace and Big Ben:Market Street:I know I am back to Europe:The Shard, tallest building in London (310m), behind the Southwark Bridge:The Tower Bridge in the background:The new London buses:The majestic St Paul’s Cathedral:The British Museum:

I watched a few games with Jieon, Korean and big football fan! She was able to balance 2 coins on top of each other… magic! The games finished late and I was far away, but I could enjoy London by night!Great week-end in London! Too short as always, there is so much to see… But who knows, maybe I will live there someday?
