6) ICELAND: THE CAPITAL REYKJAVIK (3 June 2016)

While I was touring the Blue Lagoon and the Golden Circle in the last 2 days, I was also looking for a travel mate to share rental car and petrol costs for the next week. The objective is to drive around the island and discover all the beautiful hidden secrets. I found Kurt, American, and we decided to leave Saturday morning. For my last day in Reykjavik, I went for a walk around with Thuy, young and pretty German (I know she is reading this). The weather was fantastic: blue sky, 15deg!Reykjavic is a 200,000 people city, so 2 out 3 Icelanders live in it. The Cathedral Hallgrimskirkja is a place to see, clearly representing Icelandic landscape (basalt lava flow). Its tower is the 2nd highest point in the city (73m) and worth checking the view.Reykjavik is clean and bright, colours make it attractive and it felt good to wonder around. The nice weather made it great this day, not sure it is as enjoyable all year around! Friday evening, groups were playing music, people drinking outside…1 thing particularly surprised me: we are far North, I have never been that far. And we are in June, the longest days of the year: the sun does not go down, it is daylight 24 hours a day! The picture below was taken at 1.30am. On the week-end, it was quite funny to see streets full of drunks in day light J.I travel light and, other than postcards, I did not do any shopping. But if you are into weird and useless souvenirs, here is a can of fresh Iceland air:

Tomorrow, I will leave Reykjavik for 5 or 6 days: the Ring Road is waiting for me!
