4) BEAUTIFUL SCOTLAND (28 to 31 May 2016)

Edinburgh is the 2nd largest city in Scotland, after Glasgow. But it is the touristic and historic capital: there are plenty of all buildings, including the main castle overlooking the city. I did not spend much time there, as I had already paid a visit a few years ago. To me, it is possibly the most beautiful city in the UK!I was there to catch up with Ben, my good Australian mate I met in Darwin. He is an architect and we did some work together, live in Norway and has got family in Dundee.
After a great night out, in the cold and misty city, we took a rental car to drive up to Dundee. We took Fourth Road bridge.Anne et Jeff, Ben’s aunties, welcomed us in their beautiful home a bit out of Dundee.

From the first floor window, we can see the World famous St Andrews golf field. With Ben’s cousins and their friends, we had a great and animated night out! Scottish hospitality is fabulous!Woken up by the cat, we drove up to Aberdeen, 1 hour North, to visit Diane, my ex-flatmate in Darwin. She went back home a few years ago.

Aberdeen is the 3rd city in Scotland (about 200,000 people), famous for the oil extraction in the North Sea. Diane took for a drive around and to a car show.

The day after, Anne and Jeff drove us around the Highlands. We visited Braemar, Crathie and Ballater, severely flooded a few months ago.We ended the trip on a hill overlooking Dundee. In the evening, we had great conversations about everything. Scottish hospitality is top of the top!Tuesday 30 May, it was time for us to get back to the airport. After many ‘goodbye pints’, Ben flew back to Norway when I was going for my next step: Iceland!
